Director – Transmission & Interconnection

Reporting to the Vice President, Project Development and Operations, the Director − Transmission & Interconnection will provide business development, strategic system analysis and modelling leadership for the interconnection of utility−scale wind, solar and storage projects within designated regions of North America. In addition, the selected individual will take a lead role in identifying optimal strategies for interconnecting projects to the electric grid based on curtailment potential, interconnection costs, system impact assessments, real−time energy pricing, congestion analysis and market delivery options, and will support the company’s transmission project development, acquisition, and operational activities.

About Cordelio:

Cordelio manages a 1,000+ MW renewable power generation portfolio that includes (i) a 396 MW portfolio of wind and solar projects in Ontario, and (ii) a 656 MW (net) wind and solar portfolio owned by Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (“CPP Investments”) through a joint venture with a strategic partner. Cordelio is also actively building a wind, solar, and storage development pipeline with a projected nameplate capacity of greater than 3,000 MW.   • Lead all transmission and interconnection commercial activities for the company, including:
    • Oversee generator interconnection processes for wind, solar, and storage development assets
    • Plan and execute engineering activities in support of interconnection processes
    • Manage relationships and interactions with the ISOs and RTOs throughout the lifecycle of a project
    • Provide strategic and technical input in support of project development, acquisitions, and financings, including review and commenting on independent transmission assessments
  • Support and provide input for greenfield development and M&A due diligence, including:
    • Provide input into company growth strategy through knowledge and analysis of transmission market knowledge
    • Identify available transmission capacity at specific grid interconnection points and potential for network upgrades
    • Review and/or perform transmission assessments to determine commercial viability of potential projects including load flow and congestion modelling
    • Estimate costs of required transmission system upgrades
  • Maintain knowledge of relevant ISOs and RTOs, including:
    • Market policy and rules with respect to transmission and interconnection
    • Current and future generator interconnection process status and timing
    • Current and future major transmission upgrades
    • Generator additions/retirements
  • Support operating projects transmission and interconnection issues as they arise
  • Support concurrent, multiple projects across different regions
  • Manage or lead interaction with a team of internal and external resources
  • Cooperate with and assist project finance and M&A teams


  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in electric transmission planning, operations, or related discipline
  • Experience running load flow models
  • Ability to perform congestion analyses would be an asset
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university required. Emphasis in power systems strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of the FERC policies and rules with respect to interconnection and transmission planning
  • Knowledge and experience in executing generator interconnection processes, with a strong preference for MISO interconnection
  • Strong computing skills including MS Office Suite
  • Excel, VBA, SQL experience or other modelling programming skills
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to prepare both written and oral presentation materials of complex matters in a simplified manner
  • Travel to Cordelio office locations estimated at 6 times per year for remotely located worker
